Millions of pigeons fly every day from the nests to the fields where they feed; causing great damage to the local agriculture.

The region where we organize our safaris is located in the North West of Argentina, in the provinces of Santiago del Estero and Tucuman, a paradise for the amateur hunter.

Shooting is an experience that has to be lived rather than described.

VENATOR SAFARIS” has concentrated its dove shooting in the beautiful provinces of Santiago del Estero and Tucuman, both located in the north west of Argentina, only 1 hour and 50 minutes flight from Buenos Aires.

As the area is hilly and there are cereal fields, it has the perfect conditions for the abundant reproduction of these birds. This is the reason why it is the best location for dove shooting. It is said that a million doves cross from the areas where they sleep to the place where they feed , this explains why they are considered a pest and why the shooting of these birds is not only allowed but also desired. In general the hunters use two guns and a recharger to prevent overheating of the canon as it is possible to shoot a thousand times a day.

There are lots of tortolas and doves of different varieties ( zenaida auriculata, columba, maculosa and columba picazuro )

The area where we do the shooting is wild, with lots of plants and trees and huge fields where maize or sorghum are grown.

The possibility of hunting different species in the same area is very attractive to hunters because they do not need to go to different places

The attention paid to details, the comfortable lodging and the safety guarantee our clients will remember this experience for ever.

The alfalfa , maize, wheat, soybean, etc.. and pastures with abundant graze or cereal left-overs are the places where you can find these birds.

The shooting season is reduced to two months and a half, usually between May 5th and the first days of August.

The shooting is done while walking through the fields accompanied by dogs, pointers, Bretons or bracos which give an interesting show.

Undoubtedly this is ideal since it lets you walk through the fields and admire the dogs at the same time.

It is possible to shoot three different varieties of partridges: montaraz, copetona and the small partridge. But this can only be done during the shooting season.

Duck Shooting

This is a unique safari for the duck shooting lovers, a must.

The duck shooting season is from may to November. It is done near the lake “ El Frontal “, a lake which is over 50000 hectares large and which is bordered by maize fields where you can find many species of ducks.

The fields are the ideal habitat for ducks. Small lagoons and much food let the hunter shoot an interesting number of times, always respecting the number of pieces each hunter is allowed to shoot

The shooting is done crossing the lake or in the shores and rivers that feed it.The delta, the maize fields and the lagoons make it a paradise for duck shooting.

It is common to shoot from 5 to 8 different species of duck during the same safari.

It is important to go there at sunrise as any strange movement can make the ducks go away. A typical shooting day begins at 6.30 a.m.. The hunters wear special camouflaged clothes and vadeados. Once ready for the safari, the group makes for the chosen destination to start the day. They cross the lake on board a motorboat, avoiding the trees which branches can still be seen on the surface of the lake, as it was built on an area where there used to be many trees. Our guides know the area very well as they are all locals, they grew up there. When the chosen spot for shooting is a maize field or a lagoon, the group gets there by 4x4 vehicles.

The chosen spots are conditioned by the guides who prepare them using bushes and branches. Different bait is placed in the area making it an ideal spot for duck shooting. Each shooting spot is strategically chosen, taking into consideration the fact that ducks always land against the wind and that’s the best time to shoot them

The shooting is done from sunup to 11 a.m. or until the hunter has got the number of pieces allowed to be shot ( 10 ducks per person per day )

Different kinds of ducks can be found in the area: picaso, maicero, barcino, Colorado, siriri comun and siriri pampa
